Purpose We are seeking enthusiastic, nature-loving counselors for Camp Wildflower and eSTEM Careers Camp, our immersive, outdoor nature-based learning experiences for youth and teens interested in natural science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).
Counselors may spend time facilitating both camps.
Ideal candidates will have formal education or equivalent in education or environmental sciences.
Candidates should enjoy working with diverse groups of young learners.
Our counselors will provide a safe and supportive environment for campers to explore and learn.
Counselors must be safety-minded, reliable, and energetic.
Counselors are expected to lead campers in mission-based lessons and ensure summer camp programs meet the requirements of the University of Texas Youth Protect Program and policies.
Responsibilities Facilitate learning of STEAM topics through experiential learning and discovery.
Implement the daily camp schedule and guide activities with enthusiasm.
Adapt lesson schedule as needed based on campers' engagement.
Implement and enforce camp rules and regulations.
Monitor safety, assess risk/hazards, and report issues to camp director.
Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures of the Wildflower Center.
Monitor and redirect campers’ behavior as needed.
Report code of conduct infractions to camp director.
Greet and engage with families and campers to provide meaningful and positive experiences.
Escort campers to and from activities within the Wildflower Center.
Maintain clean and organized camp environment and equipment.
Collaborate and communicate with other camp staff about lessons and campers’ behavior.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED.
Must be authorized to work in the U.
S.
Must pass a criminal background check.
Applicants must be 18+ years of age upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications Experience supervising children in an informal or formal setting.
Experience in environmental education, science, education, child development or related field.
First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
Spanish language skills are a plus.
Salary $18 per hour Working Conditions Must be able to work outside and in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
Must be able to engage in moderate physical activity (bending, lifting, pushing/pulling), demonstrate stamina, and lift fifty pounds.
Work Shift The hours will range from 16-32 hours per week based on needs, including camp attendance.
Weekly hours may vary slightly.
The camp 2024 season runs 5/28/24-6/27/24 from 8:30 am-3:30 pm.
Mandatory counselor onboarding and training will take place between 5/20-5/24/24.
Other Requirements Upon Hire: Completion of CW 514 (UTS Child Protection Training) module.
Attend mandatory counselor onboarding and training 5/20-5/24/24.
