LSUHS is looking to hire a Student Financial Aid Counselor at the level of Associate Coordinator.
The Student Financial Aid Counselor is a highly responsible administrative position performing numerous independent functions and reporting directly to the Director of Student Financial Aid.
The Student Financial Aid Counselor serves as a student financial aid advisor for LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport students enrolled in the Schools of Allied Health Professions, Graduate Studies, and Medicine.
The Student Financial Aid Counselor will advise prospective and enrolled students in all matters relevant to federal, state, and institutional student financial aid programs.
This position requires an incumbent of high integrity, professionalism, a well-developed work ethic, and the ability to interact with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
The incumbent coordinates and supports all aspects related to the areas of responsibility of the Student Financial Aid Office.
The incumbent will maintain absolute confidentiality concerning all correspondence, telephone calls, and personal conversations related to student health information, grades, financial statements, and other confidential matters to which he/she will be exposed in the course of performing the duties of this position.
The incumbent will display excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills when conducting interactions.
The Student Financial Aid Counselor will serve as the first impression of the Financial Aid Department when engaging with students.
Under the direction of the Director of Student Financial Aid, the Student Financial Aid Counselor will aid in carrying out the policies and procedures of the Student Financial Aid Department in compliance with all federal regulations set forth by the United States Department of Education.
This incumbent will coordinate all aspects of the communication processes, assist in planning financial literacy activities, and provide administrative services under the supervision of the Director of Student Financial Aid.
The Student Financial Aid Counselor must maintain working relationships with students, related academic and business offices, as well as outside agencies.
Requirements for this incumbent include, but are not limited to the ability to work autonomously and in a team environment, exercise exceptional time management, team building, and collaborative skills, and display superior customer service, The Student Financial Aid Counselor proficiently exhibits oral and written communications, elevated computer aptitude, solid analytical and organizational abilities, together with reliability and professionalism.
This incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in timely acknowledging and responding to the needs of the Student Financial Aid Office as they occur, ensuring customer satisfaction is met at all times.
On-campus attendance between the office hours of Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm is required to perform the essential functions of this position.
, Occasional financial aid events or activities will require attendance outside the scope of routine office hours.
Work hours beyond 4:30 pm and/or on weekends may be required during peak periods Lunch and breaks are dictated by the workflow of this department.
Ongoing training is required to adequately perform these tasks.
In-state and out-of-state travel may be required.
Specific responsibilities include, but not be restricted to, the following: Student Financial Aid Administration (50%) * Commit to the highest level of ethical behavior and refrain from conflict(s) of interest or the perception thereof * Utilize training opportunities and tools provided by the U.
S.
Department of Education, Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance, lenders, guaranty agencies, and professional organizations for Financial Aid Administrators to remain abreast of the constantly changing environment in financial aid and ensure professional development * Safeguard the protection of student personal and confidential information by following departmental, institutional, and federal guidelines for the release and use of student information * Follow departmental and institutional guidelines designed to protect computer and office equipment needed to ensure the timely and proper delivery of federal student aid funds * Use current regulations to determine the student’s need and compute eligibility using the appropriate regulations * Review aid applications to determine federal, state, institutional, and private awards.
Gather all student, spouse, and parental information necessary to make awards.
* Follow all office procedures derived from institutional, state, and federal regulations for reviewing and awarding student aid applications and adjust to revised procedures as necessary to meet office goals * Assists students from walk-in traffic, provides phone coverage, and responds to email inquiries * Responsible for explaining the application process to students and providing them with forms required for the completion of their files * Prepared professional written correspondence to students when needed regarding their financial aid eligibility * Execute various electronic processes used for awarding student financial aid needed to import or export student data to and from outside agencies.
The processes include but are not limited to Transfer monitoring, EFT notices, Entrance and Exit Counseling file imports, ISIR file imports, and other PeopleSoft communications * Review various publications concerning student financial aid to remain current on federal regulation * Provide administrative assistance to the Student Financial Aid Tasks may include sending e-mails, creating PowerPoint presentations, proofreading documents, administrative duties, calendar management, and any task as needed.
* Serve as the primary liaison for students and faculty related to Student Financial Aid responsibilities and services.
Update and ensure appropriate availability of departmental information and Assist students with FAFSA completion, scheduling financial literacy events, creating quarterly newsletters, or other student financial aid-related requests as needed.
* Coordinate departmental meetings, take minutes, and maintain departmental * Maintain distribution lists for all current and prospective student financial aid * Contact and respond to students by phone, e-mail, text message, or video.
* Prepare and process all financial documents and expenditures including but not limited to credit card expenditures, claim vouchers, interdepartmental charges, invoices, travel reimbursements, purchase orders, budget and cost transfers, and requisitions.
* Assist in updating the Student Financial Aid Internet and Intranet *Financial Literacy and Presentations (45% * * Coordinates student loan group entrance/exit counseling sessions as students prepare for orientation or graduation * Provide a schedule of financial literacy sessions for students * Perform on short notice, individual/group student loan entrance and exit counseling, as needed * Timely forward required exit data to outside agencies as mandated by federal and/or state regulations * Present financial aid information to prospective students during interviews, as needed * Participate in Financial Aid Awareness activities * Help promote and publicize student financial aid programs to LSUHSC and the Shreveport/Bossier communities.
*Other duties as assigned by supervisor (5%)* * Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Financial *Qualifications* Applicant must meet one of the following qualifications: * Associate’s degree from an accredited university in business, education, or a related field with at least seven (7) years of professional post-graduate experience in a professional setting.
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in business, education, or a related field with at least five (5) years of professional post-graduate experience in a professional setting.
* Master's degree from an accredited university in business, education, or a related field with at least three (3) years of professional post-graduate experience in a professional setting.
