Responsibilities The Enrollment Specialist Loan/FWS Coordinator, under the direction of the Assistant Director of Enrollment Services/Financial Aid Director, manages the administrative responsibility for Federal student loan programs, which includes processing of awards and conducting entrance/exit counseling sessions and provides support to the Division of Enrollment Management Services at Southern University at Shreveport by working with applicants, students, and parents regarding financial aid and work-study employment.
The Enrollment Specialist Loan/FWS Coordinator must be knowledgeable of federal, state, and institutional regulations and procedures related to Campus Based Programs.
In addition, the Enrollment Specialist Loan/FWS Coordinator must remain current on US income/Louisiana state tax rules, tax benefits for parents, tuition waivers, and consortium agreements.
The incumbent is responsible for correctly processing applications, verifying application data, determining eligibility, management and processing of all federal, state, institutional and outside awards.
This position will require a great deal of interaction with people and will entail frequent use of computer programs.
The candidate must demonstrate integrity, ethical behavior, and a high level of confidentiality.
The position requires the ability to focus on a variety of tasks and the candidate must be organized and be able to set priorities, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
The Enrollment Specialist Loan/FWS Coordinator position entails multiple areas of responsibility, decision-making, and reports to the Assistant Director of Enrollment Services.
* Counsel students and parents to provide guidance through financial aid process * Administer assigned programs according to federal, state, and institutional policies and regulations * Process applications, documents, calculate awards, and conduct follow-up activities * Complete registration reports to ensure that financial aid awards are issued in a timely manner * Complete error reports to ensure that direct loans are disbursed or returned in a timely manner * Monitor Common Origination Disbursement for incoming Direct Parent PLUS loan requests and award applicable loans as needed, following up with parents if there * Serve as Federal Work-Study Program Coordinator, determining eligibility for work-study, awarding work-study, and monitoring earnings for all student work-study employees on campus.
* Prepare and submit files and reports for the maintenance and reconciliation of assigned programs.
Coordinate with and respond to the Business Office and other departments on various questions about student accounts, over-awards, refunds, etc.
* Provide ongoing training, guidance, and supervision to financial aid student employees for accurate dissemination of financial aid information to other students and parents.
* Responsible for the administration of the Direct Loan Program at SUSLA, inclusive of certifying Federal Subsidized/Unsubsidized Direct Loans and Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students.
* Responsible for the review and resolution of Banner batch reports and SQL reports.
* Responsible for notifying students of unsatisfied disbursement requirements, including but not limited to Direct Loan Entrance Counseling, Direct Loan Master Promissory Note, bankruptcy, etc.
* Conducts loan entrance and exit counseling sessions.
* Serve as the primary liaison with guarantee agencies, lenders, and student loan servicers * Proactively contact and respond to prospective students via telephone, email, and SMS.
* Assess and qualify prospects to determine if SUSLA’s programs meet the academic and professional goals of prospective applicants.
* Ability to establish rapport and build relationships via phone in a high-volume call environment.
* Track record of achieving measurable results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven department.
* Remain compliant with standards and policies of the University while operating in a student-centric environment.
* Collaborate with other departments to ensure positive application progression, student satisfaction and success.
* Promotes financial aid awareness by maintaining an updated office website of available programs.
* Prepare, coordinate, process and execute communication with students through online announcements, email, text, and regular mail.
* Provide guidance to students on financial literacy, default loan prevention, repayment options, student employment, etc.
* Perform Return to Title IV Calculations.
* Communicate with faculty and staff as needed to verify student attendance and any other data needed for the return to Title IV calculations.
